To mark our fortieth harvest, we are delighted to present the “Grandes Cuvées”, our new eco-designed range, inspired by the family crest “Arma di Pietro” to embody the highest expression of the terroirs of Entre-deux-Mers. Château Roquefort’s “Grandes Cuvées” are made into red and white wines. The grapes come from plots that are being converted to organic farming.
– For the red ‘Grande Cuvée’, two terroirs characteristic of the estate complement each other. The Merlots and Malbecs from the south-facing clay-limestone terroirs of Castelviel provide a remarkable texture on the palate, with a bouquet of intense black fruit. The mineral structure and freshness characteristic of our terroirs come from the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot planted on the cool terroirs of the Roquefort limestone plateau. These are asteriated limestones whose geological origin dates back 30 million years. These different terroirs are vinified separately, matured in barrels and blended after 12 months’ maturing.
The red Grande Cuvée is offered in the 2019 vintage. This cuvée has fine, well-balanced woody notes and has great ageing potential. Ideal for festive occasions, or as a gift for an epicurean!
– For the ‘Grand Blanc’, we have selected plots of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon from the clay-limestone soils of Castelviel. Castelviel is one of the highest points in the Gironde. The grapes from these plots are vinified in new 225-litre barrels. We stir the lees during the first 6 months of ageing. These barrels are blended with Sauvignon Blanc that has been matured on its lees in stainless steel and concrete vats. This blend brings out the minerality characteristic of our limestone terroirs.
The ‘Grand Blanc’, which reveals the highest expression of the terroirs of the Entre-deux-Mers AOC, is being launched with the 2020 vintage and was recently rated 91/100 by the Revue des Vins de France. Perfect with foie gras at Christmas, or with poultry at the end of the year.
The Grandes Cuvées de Roquefort wines have been developed in collaboration with all our partners and suppliers, in order to offer an eco-designed range: the bottle is made from lightweight glass, the label is printed on 100% cotton-fibre paper and designed to optimise the size of the web at the printing works, the cap is optional, the packaging is made from two layers of cardboard to optimise packaging on a pallet, the cork is made from recyclable cork, and all our suppliers are based less than 200 kilometres from the estate.
This range reflects both the roots and the commitments of our estate, and we have taken great pleasure in designing it. We hope you enjoy it, and we look forward to your feedback!
